Emergency Plan for Pets

Check out this interesting article from the New York Times:

Pets Need an Emergency Plan,Too
By Jennifer 8. Lee
Published: October 15, 2009

"Consider it a government mantra: No Pet Left Behind. Or, if a pet is left behind during a disaster evacuation, it must have food and water, and the home must be marked to indicate to rescue workers that a pet is still inside. Departing owners should also bring a recent color photo of them and their pets, to help identify them later. These are among the lessons that New York City’s Office of Emergency Management officials are stressing to city pet owners in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced an estimated 200,000 animals....."

The donation comes from the proceeds of our center’s special “Canine Hero Suite.” We have set aside $5 of the boarding fee for every night the suite is occupied for donation to community agencies that train and develop the special dogs whose job it is to serve and protect humans -- search and rescue dogs, K-9 police, therapy dogs, service dogs and others.

Sandras 2nd Chance dogs/cats in need of homes and fosters

This is Fluffy - his owner died a month ago - he was with her when she collapsed and misguidedly protected her from the EMTs that came to her aid. He was signed over to Sandras 2nd Chance which is a non profit animal rescue, he is still trying to figure out what happened to his life. He is currently being fostered by Wendy our trainer, who is working on his good behavior. Fluffy is roughly 4-5 years of age white german shepherd/samoyed mix about 70lbs. He is good with other dogs at the dog park but would need to live with another dog who is more laid back with other dogs as hes still learning how to share his home. Cohabitating with cats would be on a case by case basis. Fluffy would be best with older children. He is a big lover boy and would make someone a nice pet. Please call Wendy (845) 667-0678 or Sandra (914) 565-5897 if interested in fostering/adopting him or one of our many other dogs and cats in need of a home.
Currently have 13 dogs and 23 cats in need of homes!
